Major contributions during the year:
Assisted Committees for Press Conference at National Assembly 07:

A press conference was held in Mumbai on the 5th of February 07 as a curtain raiser to the National Assembly. The central focus was on the alarming plight of the farmer throughout India with special stress on the farmers’ suicides in Vidarbha and Wayanad Region. Popular Film Director and Producer Mr. Mahesh Bhatt also supported the cause with his presence at the Press Conference.

National and Regional Dailies including Hindustan Times, Times of India, Mumbai Mirror, The Free Press Journal and Asian Age provided extensive coverage of the event. It enhanced visibility of the issue and campaign and also of the organization.

Press Conference at Chennai in December 2006, on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the Tsunami tragedy.

Lenten Campaign Poster and Leaflets 2007:

The Campaign theme chosen for this year is, “Save Farmers…Save India ”. This theme was prioritised keeping in view the recent distress of the farmers in India, which is leading them to suicides.

Visual Posters have been printed with captions in 11 regional languages besides English. A four-page concept note has also been published as a backgrounder.

Regular maintenance and updating of Caritas India Websites:
Recently new initiatives have been taken to merge the two existing websites into a single site with fresh look and interactive features for the staff.
Tentatively the new website is due for launch in April 2007.

Song of Oasis: Compilation of Papers presented at the International Conference on Mitigating Drought and Desertification held on June 16 – 17, 2006 at New Delhi. The book was released at the Fifth national Assembly 2007, Mumbai.

Tsunami 18 Months Report – Special Report on the completion of 18 months of Tsunami

Flight of the Phoenix: Compilation of success stories Caritas India, spread throughout the different regions of the country. The book was released at the Fifth national Assembly 2007, Mumbai.

Waves of Hope: Compilation of success stories from Tsunami operation areas.

Hand books on Rights Based Approach, Talking truth to power: Voice to the voiceless, Emergency and Disaster Management Draft Policy, Gender Policy and Caritas India – The Way forward were printed during the National Assembly 2007.

Future Challenges:
In the light of the Organizational Development (OD) Process recently completed, the Resource Mobilisation aspect of the organization needs to be tangibly initiated with an appropriate and powerful resource mobilisation strategy.

There is a felt need to strengthen this aspect by establishing a separate unit for Resource Mobilisation at the Head Office.

A significant challenge is to develop a communication strategy to ensure that staff and partners are effectively involved to an open, frank and timely communication.
