Caritas India extends program/project
support to diocesan social service societies, Non-Governmental Organizations
(NGO) and Community-Based Organizations (CBO) for community animation and human
development activities.
The primary thrust of Caritas India is empowerment of people through formation
of community organizations. Hence community educative programs are a priority.
With such ideals, Caritas India supports the following programs.

growth of specific groups and that would generate leadership among them to
achieve self-reliance, social and gender equity accelerating collective growth. |

Programs that aim community-based rehabilitation of
street children, physical and mentally challenged, drug addicts, sex workers
and their children and victims of sex trafficking.

| |
Decentralization programs |
| |
Decentralization has been an important strategy for
the organization since 1996. The strategy wants Caritas' the local partners
screen and decide for their micro-projects as well as implement and monitor
them. This is a single-window decision-making system through decentralized
structures.
Local projects selection committees called "Diocesan Projects Selection
Committees" (DPSCs) are formed at the level of every social service
society and are structurally linked to Caritas India. This approach has a
triggering effect on village communities to work for their own development.

Community Based Rehabilitation
|
| |
With a community-oriented approach, CBR-office located at
Bangalore, supports the social integration and improvement of the life
situations of people with disabilities. The organization believes in working
towards the self-reliance of people with disabilities.
The CBR programs are focussed on prevention and early diagnosis of potential
disabilities besides supporting medical, educational and vocational
rehabilitation programs for those who are already disabled. We also support
programs for lobbying, self-organization and networking of disabled persons. In
addition, CBR also supports programs and campaigns that create public awareness
on issues of disabled that needs social attention.
