Caritas counterparts
in Pondicherry are Pondicherry Multipurpose Social Service
Society (PMSSS) and South Arcot Multipurpose Social Service
Society (SAMSSS) operating since 1977 and 1987 respectively.
The prime areas of operations are Pondicherry, Karaikal,
Cuddalore and Villupuram districts where 19 villages have
been identified to extend long term rehabilitation &
support.

| Emergency Response: |

Relief camps were
established; and cooked food, dry ration, clothing, medicine
and counseling was provided to 10,000 people
|
| Livelihood Support: |
|
111 boats were manufactured
at the boat manufacturing unit at St. Joseph’s Industrial
Training Institute, Cuddalore. These were distributed
at a ration of 1:5 i.e. 1 boat for 5 families. Boats were
launched on the sea on May 5. |

96 sets of Gill nets were
distributed to 96 Fibre boat owners |
|
17 Cattamarans were distributed
in village Subhauppalavady |
|
96 Engines have been repaired
benefiting 221 families |
|
98 new engines were distributed |
|
Spare parts worth Rs. 10 lakhs
are given to 69 IB launches |

Utensils fro marketing fish
were distributed

| Other Income Generation
Activities: |
|
A total of 90 trades including
Dry fish selling, Candle selling, Coconut selling, Electric
parts selling, Bakery, Goat rearing, Juice shop, Saloon
benefiting 4058 families were supported with a distribution
of Rs. 12,339,000. |

Providing iceboxes, weighing
balance, knife, shovel, fish, prawn trays benefited 235
people |
|
14 Cycle rickshaws were distributed
|
| Self Help Groups: |
|
70 SHGs have been formed with
15 to 20 members in each group. Total 363 SHGs are operational
in the area |
|
In Devanampattinam 140 women
from 7 SHG’s were given assistance of Rs.3000 each
amounting to a total of Rs.4, 20,000 to start income generating
activities

| Education/Vocational
Training: |
|
540 school children are benefiting
from supervised study programmes at Devanampattinam |
|
168 women attend tailoring classes, 12
tailoring machines are provided |
|
73 Girls and 48 Boys are attending
computer training |
|
Training in driving is given
to the youth in 6 villages, benefiting 233 young candidates
|
| Water and Sanitation: |
|
A total of 217 toilets have been
constructed benefiting 230 families, 7 hand pumps are
installed an 1 well dug, benefiting 725 people
|
| Psycho-Social support: |
|
Training of Master trainers
(secondary) and Animators (primary) is the prime target.
Excursion trip of 138 women to Yercaud was organized from
Devanampattinam, Youth and Children sports are facilitated.
