Blood Donation Forum inaugurated on World Health Day at Kerala

Caritas Samaritan Task Force and Neyyattinkara Integral development Society (NIDS) partnered with Sri Chitra Triunnel Institute for Medical Science & Technology to observe World Health Day by donating blood and saving lives in a special way.

A blood donation drive was organised at Logos Pastoral Centre on April 7, 2021 by Caritas Samaritan Task Force apart from the Covid-19 volunteering support. A special Samaritan blood donor’s forum was inaugurated along with Blood Donation Camp and awareness session on ‘Post Covid-19 Lifestyle’.

Coronavirus pandemic has pushed the entire world on the brink of social and economic uncertainty. Apart from socio-economic impact, the virus has caused enormous irrevocable damage to the health system especially the blood shortage for patients.

The numbers of phone call every day to the Samaritans for blood by the patient’s family has given the idea of creating the Samaritan Blood Donor’s Forum at NIDS. A total of 230 Caritas Samaritas are part of this forum and every ready to support the needy.

“The whole community is eagerly looking to the Samaritan Task Force to get their service on this pandemic time therefore all theSamaritans have accountability to the community,” said  Msgr. G Christudas, President NIDS  while inaugurating the Forum. He also expressed his gratitude to the Samaritans for the service he received from them during his family’s crucial time.

Fr. Rahul B Anto said, “Blood donation is an essential health service and it is more important than ever, even during the Covid-19 pandemic.  Every drop gives hope to each life”.

78 Selected people from 10 Disaster clinics participated in the awareness session conducted by Mr.Sam Levance, Health Inspector, General Hospital Neyyattinkara. He clearly explained to each and everyone how the covid-19 virus affects our internal organs. The session in charge also explained how to improve the immune system of Covid -19 affected person by excises and food habits.

41 Samaritans actively donated blood during this day to make this blood donation a success. A team including 10 technicians and a doctor from Sree Chitra Triunnel Institute for Medical Science & Technology guided the camp.
