Caritas India on 29th and 30th August 2021 took the District administration of Morigaon and Dhemaji onboard to launch the Global Program India. Guwahati Gana Seva Society (GGSS) and Women Development Centre (WDC), the partner organisations of the Caritas India Global Programme India too this initiative to organise this launch even at the District Administration premises.
In Morigaon, Thangsha Sebastian, Asst. Manager DRR & HA gave a summary of Global Program India which focuses on Poverty Reduction, Food Security and Promoting Social Inclusion of Particularly Marginalised Groups and Increasing Resilience to Disasters in High-Risk Areas will make a sustainable contribution to Sustainable Development Goal 2, 10 and 13. He also informed in Morigaon District the program would benefit more than 6000 HHs in 20 revenue villages in 8 panchayats and overall it will reach out to 4,92,150 direct participants and 4,00,000 indirect participants in Assam, Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal.
During the inaugural ceremony, the Additional Deputy Commissioner has expressed his happiness about the program that has been implementing in the district. He further added saying that his team would support whenever the team need support. This program will become more resilient and cope whenever disaster strike. He also expressed gratitude to Caritas India and GGSS for the medical kits for ASHA and Aganwadi workers at this time of the COVID pandemic. During the event, ADC, DDMA and Executive Director of GGSS handed over 15 medical kits to Asha and Aganwadi Workers within Global Program India project villages. The support is very much relevant, and this is the need of the hour when the district is affected so much with COVID 19.
A similar launching was also organised at Sisiborgaon Block, Conference Hall, Dhemaji District Assam. Many government representatives from the district, Block Development Office, Revenue Circle, Panchayat, ASHA and Aganwadi workers were present for the inaugural ceremony. Nilotpal Pathak circle officer, Dipen Deuri Medical, DDMA, Block Program Manager NRHM, Assistant BDO Sisiborgaon Block, Member of Dhemaji Press Club, Asha and Aganwadi workers were present in the event. In Dhemaji District the target for WDC is 20 villages in 4 Panchayat reaching out to more than 6000 individuals.
Nilotpal Pathak, the circle officer, Sisiborgaon revenue circle formally launched the program in Dhemaji District where many government representatives from the district, block development Office, Revenue Circle Office, Health Department, Panchayat Presidents, ASHA and Aganwadi Workers, Civil Society and WDC team.
During the inaugural function Mr. Nilotpal Pathak, Circle Officer has expressed his gratitude to Caritas India and Women Development Centre for being actively involved in building community resilience in disaster-prone areas. He has assured his full support to make the project more meaningful. He has asked the WDC team to share the list of planned activities for every month so that he can assign the relevant departments to provide the necessary support to WDC. Regarding mentally challenged person, he has asked the Global Program India team in Dhemaji to inform him if the team encounter any mentally challenged person during the field visits so that he and the social welfare department can directly contact the person for necessary support. He further assured us of organizing a mock drill at the block level after the completion of the task force training program in the community.
The launching of the program was followed by a demonstration on how to use medical kits was done by the medical officer along with his team. The frontline workers, ASHA and Anganwadi workers were very much thankful to Caritas India for the support which would be very much helpful in fighting against the COVID pandemic.
