Caritas India handed over Ventilator to Kerala Chief Minister

Caritas India handed over medical ventilators to the Kerala Chief Minister, Shri. Pinarayi Vijayan for the treatment of  COVID-19 patients.

These lifesaving ventilators will be given to the Government Medical Colleges at Trivandrum, Kollam, Alleppey, Kottayam, Calicut and Ernakulam Government General Hospital through the support of Siemens Caring Hands. These Government medical colleges and hospitals are majorly catering services for the poor and marginalized people who cannot afford private hospitals.

The handing over ceremony was graced by His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos, head of the Syro-Malankara Church, Bishop Christudas Rajappan, Auxiliary Bishop of Trivandrum, Fr. (Dr.) Paul Moonjely, Executive Director of Caritas India and Fr. Thomas Mukulampurath, MSS Trivandrum. The event took place at the CMO office Trivandrum on September 18, 2021.

Shri Pinarayi Vijayan praised Caritas India’s supports of Kerala in different disasters in the last years. Chief Minister stated that Kerala Government is willing to associate with Caritas India different sectors for the development of marginalised communities.

Caritas India has made a deliberate effort to strengthen the Government medical infrastructure to handle the rising case of Covid-19 in the state. Caritas India has also provided medical kits to the front-line health workers in Kerala to reach out to the remotest population.

Caritas India has continued its covid-19 humanitarian response in the second wave by actively supporting the Government hospitals in reducing the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in Kerala.

In Kerala, Caritas India has initiated the second wave response in May 2021 by setting up treatment centres to support the poor people who can not afford expensive treatments. Almost 10,000 patients have been reached through the medical kits, food kits, medical treatment, psychosocial support and Covid Information Sharing Centres.
