The aftermath consequences of the Assam floods continue to persist especially in the vulnerable section of the population. Although the number of people affected by the flood water has now reduced to 8000 according to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), lakhs of people are struggling hard to rebuild their lives that were washed by a calamity the scale of which they never witnessed before. Thousands more are in need of basic amenities such as clean drinking water, shelter and sanitation and thus are heavily reliant on relief materials.
Caritas India’s team has been on the ground zero since day one, rigorously pooling resources, manpower and funds to pull the vulnerable people out of their misery. Our approach has been to not only support victims with a basic supply of food, and materials but to help them in rebuilding their lives in their entirety.
We are continuing our service of providing relief in terms of WaSH, food and shelter kits. We are simultaneously working on WaSH promotion by carrying out hand pump cleaning/repairs and awareness generation for the masses.
