Caritas India reached out to the most-affected and distributed food packets to 1671 families of Borha and Parsa Madho Panchayat of Supaul district in Bihar.
Every food packet included, 30 kg rice, 2 liter oil, 4 kg (Chana) dal, 2 Soyabean, 1 kg salt, 2 kg sugar, 250 gm tea power and4 packets of biscuit.
After floods, food becomes a challenge for affected community. Caritas India staff had ensured the best quality materials for the beneficiaries by physically checking the quality of the packets.
The distribution was conducted through the fair price shop model whereby selected 5 vendors had provided food packets to the beneficiaries through commodity vouchers.
The distribution was smooth due to the support of district administration of Supaul. The law enforcement officials helped in controlling the crowd and running the operation smoothly without any incidence.
ADM Supaul had extended all necessary support like boats, deep divers, life jackets etc. in conducting the distribution at a far flung villages which were inaccessible due to water.
The process was owned by the community and local ward members along with other panchayat members helped the relief committee to identify the worst affected vulnerable community for relief distribution.
During the assessment, beneficiaries were given commodity vouchers in advance and were informed to bring the coupon at the time of distribution.
Today, Caritas India Bihar team is operational in the field and distributing WASH voucher and commodity vouchers at Dholi Panchayat of Supaul district.
