Caritas India has extended vital support to the urban poor families in Delhi through its ‘Share to Serve’ initiative, addressing urgent needs in two distinct urban areas. On 7th February 2025, the organization distributed 66 dry ration kits in Jahangirpuri slum and 66 blankets in Dilshad Garden, targeting those most affected by urban poverty and harsh winter conditions.

Mobilized through the generosity of donors, this effort prioritizes single parents, persons with disabilities, and families battling extreme financial strain, offering not just material aid but a lifeline of dignity. This initiative was carried out in partnership with V-Care Social Service Centre, Jahangir Puri and Deepti Foundation, Dilshad Garden.

In Jahangirpuri slum, where many residents rely on informal and precarious livelihoods, the dry ration kits provide essential sustenance to families struggling to meet basic needs. This support is particularly crucial for daily wage labourers and scrap collectors who face significant challenges in accessing necessities.

Meanwhile, in Dilshad Garden, the distribution of blankets offers warmth and comfort to vulnerable individuals, including those living with HIV who face additional health risks during winter months. This targeted approach demonstrates Caritas India’s commitment to addressing the specific needs of different marginalized groups.

Fr. Anil Crasta, Assistant Executive Director of Caritas India, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “Our ‘Share to Serve’ program is about more than just material aid. It’s about fostering a culture of compassion and shared responsibility in our communities.”

This effort is part of Caritas India’s broader mission to promote a culture of sharing and caring for marginalized communities. The organization continues to call for collective action, inviting individuals, communities, and organizations to join in supporting Delhi’s urban poor.
