Caritas India has dedicated “Athijeevan” programme in Kerala as a great coordinated effort to support the communities impacted by floods and landslides in Kerala from August 2018.
An event was organized on 9th August 2019 at Pastoral Orientation Centre (POC) in Palativattom to launch the “Navajeevan” programme and Caritas-Samaritans in the State. “Navajeevan” is intended to develop 320 disaster resilient communities by developing village disaster management committees across the Districts in coordination with the 32 Diocesan Partners. Caritas Samaritan is a new initiative of Caritas India to strengthen the community partnership and ownership through Volunteerism.
The programme commenced with the prayer by KIDS-Kottapuram volunteers. Fr.Paul Moonjely, Executive Director of Caritas India briefed as to how much Caritas value this partnership. He also welcomed the Dignitaries and participants with fruit saplings to strengthen the step in nurturing nature. Fr. Jolly, Assitant Executive Director of Caritas India also gave an overall update on Caritas’ contribution to the humanitarian response as well in the rebuilding programme.
Most Rev. Dr. Maria Calist Soosa Pakiam-Arch Bishop of Trivandrum inaugurated the function by lightening the lamp. Most Rev. Bishop Dr. Joshua Mar Ignathios -Vice President, CBCI and Most Rev.Thomas Mar Kuriyiloos-extended benediction messages to strengthen each of our efforts to the humanitarian and development initiatives with the blessings of the almighty. Most Rev. Dr. Bishop Alex Vadakumthala and Most. Rev. Bishop Joseph Karikkassery also graced the occasion with their presence. Mr. Sabu Thomas, Governing Board Member of United Way Bangalore explained, how the partnership with Caritas India has enabled them to reach out the most vulnerable communities through a systematic and organized manner within the stipulated timeline.
Sr. Jacia representated- Kerala Social Service Forum. Athijeevan – A travel of endurance was released during the occasion by Most. Rev. Dr. Bishop Suse Pakyam. Mr.Sabu Thomas from UWB was honoured with a Memento for their great partnership and contribution. Rev.Fr.Romance Antony, former KSSF Director also attended the programme. DSSS Director’s also actively participated in the event.
There were around 250 programme participants attended the event despite the torrential rain which started on 8th August 2019. There was Sahrudaya Musical Band with differently-abled artists enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing music and mimics parade. Rev. Fr. Varghese Vallikkattu, Deputy Secretary, KCBC extended vote of thanks toward the concluding session of the programme.
