SELF-ENTREPRENEURSHIP LIVELIHOOD MODEL FOR SPECIALLY ABLED

Sixty specially abled children and forty-two elderly people from old age home in Krishnagar, West Bengal will be supported by Caritas to live a dignified life.

The latest humanitarian initiative ‘Sneha Stitch’ (stitch of love) will provide financial assistance to the congregation of Adoration Sisters of immaculate heart of Mary to setup tailoring and stitching unit and the earnings received from the initiative will be used for the upkeep and livelihood of the disowned children and elderly beneficiaries of ‘Snheneer’ (Specially abled children home) and ‘Bridhashram’ (Old-Aged Home).

The congregation aimed to generate means and ways to minimize external dependency and develop self-entrepreneurship model to sustain the upkeep of snheneer and bridhashram.

The planned tailoring unit will be run by six congregation nuns trained from Industrial Training Institute on stitching, tailoring and designing along with four trainees will be stitching school uniforms, Nun’s habits, priests’ cassocks, Church & religious institutional clothing for identified educational & religious institutions in the nearby vicinity.

The unit plans to produce 900 pcs of uniforms per month in the five schools. There are plans to expand to more schools in krishnagar in the near future.

Addressing the people during the launch of the humanitarian initiative ‘Sneha Stitch’ Rt Rev. Joseph Gomes sdb, Bishop of Krishnagar expressed his profound appreciation to Caritas for their support.

State Officer, Bablu Sarkar explained that specially abled people are not ordinary but they are the gift to this world. They are not meant to blend in; instead they are meant to shine. Sneha Stitch initiative will help them to bring out their unique talents and make their world more beautiful.

Project co-coordinator of Krishnagar Cathedral Charitable Social Society (KCCSS), Mr. Suman Lawrence Mondal presented some of the vital activities of the specially abled children and the collaboration of KCCSS.

Caritas India through the micro projects, come up with various social development intervention programmes for sustainable impact to improve living conditions of the people in the areas of health, education, agriculture, community mobilization, women empowerment as well as the institutional support.
