Aizawl, the capital city of Mizoram, hosted the final event of PROCAP for the forcibly displayed population (FDPs) on March 27, 2023. PROCAP was initiated to respond to the humanitarian needs of the FDPs.

The journey to support more than 18000 forcibly displaced populations from Manipur and Mizoram started in March 2022. The idea was to provide support to the FDPs in meeting their immediate needs with access to inclusive and multi-sectoral assistance.

The final closing event was organised to bring all the key project stakeholders together to formally wrap up the project. Approximately 60 participants came to attend the event. The participants included project teams from Mizoram and Manipur, project participants—leaders from host and FDP communities—and representatives from civil society organisations.
Fr. Paul Moonjely, Executive Director, Mr. Anjan Bag, HA, DRRR Lead, Ms. Jancy Mathew, and Ms. Sujata Rosy, Programme Finance Associate, from Caritas India were physically present for the event. Additionally, Caritas Austria was represented in the event by Mr. Thomas Preindl, programme coordinator, and Mr. Sunil Simon, technical advisor.

The project was anchored by Caritas Austria with its three implementing partners: Caritas India, ZEP, and DSSS. Funded by ECHO, the project was implemented in 28 villages in Manipur and Mizoram, covering 9884 men and 8836 women. The intervention was designed to enhance the safety, dignity, and overall protective environment of those FDPs. The project was successful in ensuring food security, water sanitation, hygiene, shelter, and non-food items, along with a protection mechanism for the target population.

Mr. Sunil Simon shared the trajectory of the project by highlighting the background and processes behind its conceptualization and implementation. It was followed up by the session of Fr. Paul Moonjely, who brought in the larger context of the project, the plight of people in distress, and the challenging journey walked so far by the team together. A short audio-visual was screened to present the project’s journey and achievements. Community stakeholders, project teams, and representatives from CSOs shared their experiences and voices. Bishop Stephen Rotluanga also graced the event for the closing ceremony.
