Baruipur Diocese celebrates the diamond jubilee of Caritas India

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Baruipur in West Bengal celebrated the diamond jubilee of Caritas India on February 8, 2023. Palli Unnayan Samiti (PUS), Baruipur, the social development arm of Baruipur Diocese, organised the colourful event. The celebration begins with the holy Eucharist celebrated by Most Rev. Shyamal Bose, Bishop of Baruipur, as the main celebrant, along with Most Rev. Salvador Lobo, Emeritus Bishop of Baruipur, Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Jolly Puthenpura, Assistant Executive Director, Caritas India, Fr. Soumen Mallik, Director, PUS, Baruipur, and other co-celebrants.

The homily of Bishop Shyamal Bose highlighted the services of Caritas India for the faithful and non-faithful communities of the diocese for the past 60 years. He appreciated the whole fraternity of Caritas India for their selfless service. He prayed to the almighty God to bless all the donors, and well-wishers of Caritas India so it can reach out to many more deserving communities in the days to come.

Most Rev. Salvador Lobo, the Emeritus Bishop of Baruipur, congratulated Caritas India for her selfless 60 years of joyous service to the diocese of Baruipur. He recalled his involvement with Caritas India during 1971 Bangladesh rehabilitation work in the Jalpaiguri Diocese. He stressed that Caritas India is reaching out to marginalised communities without regard to caste, creed, or religion. He congratulated Caritas India for reaching out during emergencies very quickly and doing humanitarian work.

Bishop Shyamal, on behalf of the Catholic Diocese of Baruipur, honoured Fr. (Dr.) Jolly Puthenpura, the Assistant Executive Director of Caritas India, with a memento for extending support in the development activities of Baruipur. Fr. Jolly appreciated all the bishops, priests, and community members for providing the necessary cooperation to Caritas India. He congratulated Palli Unnayan Samiti (PUS), Baruipur, for the remarkable developmental activities over the past 45 years in the diocese and for spreading the love of Jesus Christ.

In his presidential address, Bishop Shyamal appreciated and congratulated Caritas India for celebrating 60 years of joyful service in the country. He said that Caritas India has always been a beacon of hope for the diocese in humanitarian as well as developmental activities. He wishes Caritas India would give much more to society through her various developmental interventions.

During the formal function, the students and staff of the local school performed theme-based dances to make the event colourful and memorable.
