Caritas India reinforced its commitment to safeguarding by conducting a three-day intensive workshop on safeguarding investigations from February 26-28, 2025 for the members of Safeguarding, POSH and Child Protection Committee. The workshop, led by Mr. Khushal Neogy from CRS, focused on best practices and procedures for conducting safeguarding investigations with efficiency, integrity, and compliance with international standards.

The training emphasized the importance of thorough and impartial investigations in addressing safeguarding concerns, ensuring a structured approach to handling allegations, assessing risks, and implementing corrective measures. Participants explored principles of fairness, confidentiality, accountability, and survivor-centred investigations to uphold ethical governance in the organizations.

Fr. Antony Fernandes, Executive Director of Caritas India, highlighted the crucial role of safeguarding investigation teams in creating a safe work environment. He stressed the importance of transparency, diligence, and adherence to the international safeguarding protocols.

Participants engaged in practical case studies, quizzes, and discussions on best practices to strengthen their investigative skills. Key topics covered included principles of evidence collection, risk assessment, disciplinary actions, and donor reporting requirements. The workshop also guided attendees on maintaining safeguarding records, handling sensitive disclosures, and ensuring procedural integrity throughout investigations.

A comparative analysis of pre- and post-workshop assessments revealed notable improvements in participants’ understanding of safeguarding investigation frameworks, ethical considerations, and compliance mechanisms.
