Caritas India supports 44 oxygen concentrators in Northeast India as India continues to deal with COVID-19

Caritas India continues its emergency supports in Northeast India COVID-19 humanitarian response by providing oxygen concentrators to the remotest health institutions.

On 8th July 2021 Jana Unnayan Samiti Tripura (JUST), a partner organisation of Caritas India received 3 oxygen concentrators. These oxygen concentrators are supported by Caritas Germany to avail lifesaving equipments to the poor and marginalised communities who cannot afford these expensive services.

The country has seen a critical shortage of oxygen in the second wave of COVID-19 for treating patients with respiratory diseases caused by Covid. In an accelerated effort to expand access to oxygen care, Caritas India with the help of Caritas Germany is ensuring the provision of oxygen concentrators across different parts of the country.

On 27th July 2021, Jana Unnayan Samiti Tripura (JUST) organized a meeting with different reputed NGOs from Tripura at its office hall, Agartala. Bishop Lumen Monteiro of the Agartala diocese distributed oxygen concentrators to the 3 NGOs namely, NIFFA, Subrai Vidya Mandir, and Bethany Dispensary Kathalcherra during the meeting for the benefit of the needy people. 21 participants from the National Integrated Forum of Artists and Activists (NIFFA), Sadbhavna, Wings of Hope Foundation, ASHA Holy Cross, Bethany Dispensary Kathalcherra, Maharaja Bir Bikram Club, Khumulwng, TRIBAC, Oisho Bani Society, Subrai Vidya Mandir, and Tripura Times also participated in the meeting.

“These Oxygen Concentrators are the small initiative of Caritas India in collaboration with JUST to support the covid infected people and this is in preparation to face the third phase of covid-19.

Apart from this Caritas India through JUST and ASHA is in the process to reach 1,450 families with medical kits and dry ration and at least 5000 HH with covid appropriate behaviours awareness in Tripura,” shared Bishop Lumen during the distribution occasion.

Subrai Vidya Mandir will be keeping the oxygen concentrator in a government PHC in an interior town, whereas NIFFA has decided to keep it in Agartala for the people of the town with the help of ‘News Vanguard’ a news agency that is already providing oxygen for the needy people free of cost in Agartala.  Bethany Sisters will position the oxygen concentrator in their dispensary in one of our parishes to support the people of that area in times of need.
