Lead – Safeguarding

Job Description

PRIMARY ROLE

The Safeguarding Lead will primarily focus on strengthening the diocesan fraternity by ensuring the effective implementation and adherence to safeguarding standards. This role involves providing guidance, training, and support to diocesan teams, helping to institutionalize safeguarding practices, and fostering a culture of accountability and protection. The Safeguarding Lead will work to ensure that all diocesan programs are aligned with the highest safeguarding standards, ensuring the safety and dignity of vulnerable individuals in all Caritas India initiatives.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Program Design & Implementation:

  • Design and implement safeguarding programs tailored to diocesan teams and communities.
  • Develop and adapt safeguarding policies, protocols, and procedures for diocesan programs.
  • Ensure all safeguarding initiatives are well-coordinated, resourced, and executed.
  • Focus on capacity-building, risk mitigation, and compliance with safeguarding standards.
  • Monitor the progress and outcomes of safeguarding programs and make necessary improvements.

Networking & Stakeholder Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with diocesan leadership, external safeguarding bodies, and partner organizations.
  • Engage in safeguarding networks and forums to stay updated on best practices.
  • Foster partnerships and collaboration to share knowledge, resources, and expertise.
  • Advocate for safeguarding issues and align safeguarding priorities among all stakeholders.
  • Strengthen the safeguarding framework within Caritas India’s social ministry through effective communication and shared responsibility.

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

  • Promote a culture of learning by facilitating knowledge-sharing platforms, such as workshops, webinars, and training sessions.
  • Capture and document lessons learned and key insights from safeguarding incidents and projects.
  • Continuously update safeguarding guidelines and resources to align with emerging trends and international standards.
  • Ensure that safeguarding knowledge is effectively disseminated to all relevant stakeholders to support informed decision-making and practices.

 STEWARDSHIP OF RESOURCES

  •  Ensure the efficient and responsible use of resources allocated to safeguarding programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee the budgeting and financial management of safeguarding-related activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and safeguarding standards.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of resource allocation to safeguard the well-being of vulnerable individuals and communities.
  • Promote transparency and accountability in the use of funds and other resources for safeguarding activities.
  • Regularly review resource utilization to optimize processes and improve outcomes in safeguarding efforts.

Travel: Must be willing to travel and stay in project locations as per the Program need.

Experience & thorough knowledge of Safeguarding Standards: In-depth understanding of national and international safeguarding frameworks, policies, and best practices, particularly in child protection, gender-based violence, and vulnerable adult protection.
