India's staggering internal migration rate of 28.9% underscores the urgency to address migration challenges for inclusive development.
Caritas India leads this charge, offering holistic support to migrants and families. Collaborating with stakeholders, we aim to provide essential services, skill development, and community empowerment. Our ongoing project, Pravasi Bandhu, benefits over 22,470 migrants supported by partners like Caritas Australia. Through strategic initiatives, we encourage safe migration, educate on working conditions, and ensure access to education and livelihood support. Our goal is to enhance migrant well-being by preventing exploitation, protecting dignity, and promoting overall welfare. With an asset-based approach and stakeholder collaboration, we strive to empower communities and mitigate post-COVID challenges, ensuring a brighter future for migrants.

In October 2018, Caritas India launched a cluster program on anti-human trafficking in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The program was implemented by five partners across seven districts, covering 75 villages. It focused on addressing unsafe migration and combating human trafficking, with its inception in October 2018 and the completion of its fourth phase on 31st March 2023. Assam and Arunachal Pradesh presented distinct challenges. Assam witnessed a large number of unsafe migrations beyond the Northeast, often leading to exploitation and abuse at workplaces. In contrast, the key concern in Arunachal Pradesh was the inflow of people from neighbouring Assam, particularly the arrival of minor children under the pretext of receiving an education, which resulted in violations related to child labor. The program reached a total population of 62,294. It successfully rescued 78 individuals from trafficking, provided victim-cantered rehabilitation services to 38 survivors, and facilitated the arrest of 13 traffickers.
