Farmers of Anandapur village stand together to overcome Food Security Challenges

In the face of food security challenges, the farmers from Anandapur village, Deban Circle Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh have come together to stand united. Despite limited resources and unfavourable conditions, they have exhibited resilience and determination to overcome these challenges.

These farmers have recognized the importance of self-sufficiency in food production and have taken proactive measures to ensure a steady supply of nutritious food for their community. Through collective efforts, they have upscaled their existing farming practices like paddy and vegetables through sustained technical support. While trellises have been offered as an option to upscale kitchen gardens, there has also been a surge in the number of millet farmers.

Seva Kendra Arunachal East (SKAE) in collaboration with Caritas India; while implementing FARM NE program shared the knowledge with smallholders on sustainable farming techniques, such as crop diversification, organic inputs (composting and biologicals), and soil and water conservation methods. Smallholder farmers in Anandapur village are now trying to enhance their productivity with support from the FARM program.

By sharing knowledge and resources, these farmers are not only improving their livelihoods but also contributing to the overall well-being of Anandapur village. They have formed Farmers’ Club (FC) and other support systems that enable them to pool their resources, access better markets, and negotiate fair prices for their produce.

“The unity among these farmers has not only strengthened their ability to combat food security challenges but has also fostered a sense of community empowerment. By working together towards a common goal, they are setting an inspiring example for other communities facing similar issues,” says Mr. Mintu Moshahari, FPA Farm NE.

In conclusion, the farmers from Anandapur village are demonstrating that by standing together and embracing innovative solutions, it is possible to overcome even the most daunting food security challenges. Their collective efforts serve as a reminder that unity and collaboration can pave the way for a more sustainable future in agriculture.
