Care for Our Common Home (Laudato Si’) is the appeal made by Pope Francis to “every person living on this planet” for an inclusive dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet. Pope Francis calls the Church and the world to acknowledge the urgency of our environmental challenges and to join him in embarking on a new path.

Caritas India through its strategic pillar is addressing the issue of climate change by dialogue with nature. All the development programmes of Caritas India promotes actions for human ecology, eco-based climatic resilience, and protection of natural resources.

In Northeast India, FARM programme has worked towards reviving traditional socio-economic and health practices through people-led approach to establish a dialogue with nature. Jana Unnayan Samiti Tripura (JUST), one of the partners of Caritas India for FARM programme in Northeast has taken the serious initiative to arrest the issue of climate change and providing sustainable solutions for food and nutrition security through traditional farming practices.

As part of summing up the FARM NE-II in a few months from now, a project memorial plantation drive was conducted on July 27, 2019, by JUST at Uruabari, Khamper Para and Dumrakarik Para. Around 300 mango saplings were distributed to 150 farmers.

“You have been given different pieces of training and awareness programs on different activities and you should make use of the pieces of training and practice for your good”, said Fr. Jeevan Kennady Director of JUST in his speech to the farmers.

He also suggested to make use of the opportunities of the linkages made with Government Departments like ICAR, Agriculture Department, FRCLE, NABFINS, etc and assured all support in the future. He thanked all the farmers for being part of FARM NE Project.
