Ashakiranam walked the cancer journey with Anju but she needs more support

When Anju, 23, was diagnosed with blood cancer, her life took a complete turn. Hailing from the Scheduled Caste Community of Maradi Panchayat of Muvattupuzha in Kerala, she is a highly educated girl.

Her widow mother used to work as a laborer to support the family of two, but due to her old age that source of income is also lost. The treatment was not easy and now the pressure of bearing the treatment cost becomes more and more difficult.

The sudden cancer diagnosis thrown them in financial toll as she reached fourth stage of Cancer. She had to undergo a treatment at Vellore Christian Medical College as the facilities are not available in Kerala.

More often, the impact of cancer is far greater than number of cases. It not only given emotional trauma but puts under major economic burden. The disease has dual economic impact, loss of income and increase in treatment expenses.

Caritas India Ashakiranam Cancer Care Programme had assisted more than 11,000 patients with financial supported for treatment who finds it difficult to make ends meet.

Ashakiranam with the support of Surya Fans Association, Kerala conducted Flash mob at Grand Mall Kochi and mobilized Rs. 10,680 funds for Anju’s treatment. The raised fund was handed over to the family by Mr. Eldo Abraham, MLA. The Surya Fans Association expressed their association with Ashakiranam in future for the noble cause.
