Caritas India becomes a winter soldier

There is no lesser joy than sharing the warm blankets with the destitute homeless people this winter season. Caritas India through its Warm a Night save a Life (Blanket Campaign) reached out to the most marginalised people on the streets with winter blankets.

On the eve of Christmas day, Caritas India initiated an online donation drive for blanket support. In the state of Bihar, a decent amount of Rs. 45,000 has been raised by the people of good heart to support the people on the streets. The Caritas India staff reached out to the vulnerable people at night with blankets to fight the cold and sharing the message of love and care with the destitute.

Caritas India has distributed the blankets among rag pickers, a rickshaw puller and people residing over footpaths. The donation drives have covered Kankarbagh, Gandhi Maidan, PMCH area, Patna junction and Danapur station.

The importance of a blanket in winter cannot be emphasized enough, and then there are those who have been rendered homeless due to either due to Covid or other reason. “These days are the worst, with very low temperatures and fog. I am homeless and only have a plastic sheet to save from cold. This blanket is will be very much useful for me my family,” said Shiv Jee Ram, a rickshaw puller near Gandhi Maidan.

This blanket drive is running across the country to reach out to the unreached during this winter to promote sharing among the community. This drive was aimed to engage with the community more meaningfully while respecting and recognizing community’s willingness to participate and contribute to social initiative; Continue to involve the community as a partner in action and create new avenues for sharing and giving.

Apart from the blanket drive, the organisation is also running ‘share a meal’ campaign to serve hot meals to the destitute homeless people who are sleeping outside in open. The first phase of this drive is already started in Delhi and it will continue in different parts of the country through the generous support of our people.

With the support by our side, this year’s campaign has become a bigger success. It’s a humble call out to all the people, who share the common dream of helping others in need, to come and be a part of our mission and vision for there is no better joy and satisfaction than helping others and saving a life.
