Children’s day in Nuh showcases a powerful model of inclusion

Children in Hirmithala village, Nuh, celebrated Children’s Day with uncommon energy as Caritas India and the Roop V K Jain Foundation turned the local school courtyard into an inclusive space where every child, including children with disabilities, participated fully and confidently.

The event, attended by children, parents, teachers, and community members, highlighted the growing impact of the joint initiative in the region. Eleven children with disabilities enrolled under the programme supported children with locomotor disabilities, hearing impairments, and mental illness who took part in all activities, marking a shift in a community where disabilities often lead to isolation.

Games, cultural performances, and creative competitions dominated the day, giving children multiple spaces to express themselves. Community educators ensured accessibility and comfort for every child, allowing children with disabilities to join their peers without hesitation. Teachers shared that this was the first time many of these children were able to participate in a celebration without exclusion.

The courtyard looked different because every child was part of every moment. Inclusion becomes real when we stop separating children and start recognising their abilities.

The programme team placed a strong emphasis on awareness, sharing messages on child rights, health, education, and child protection through interactive storytelling and discussions. These sessions helped parents and children understand the importance of equal opportunities and early support for all children, including those with disabilities.

Class 4 student Rihan, who has a hearing impairment, joined the drawing competition with evident excitement. His teacher described him as an active and determined student. “His disability has never been a barrier. With the right guidance and cooperation, we believe he will excel,” she said, watching him proudly showcase his artwork.

For parents of children with disabilities, the celebration offered reassurance that change is taking root. Many expressed gratitude that their children could finally participate in a community event without fear or stigma.

The partnership between Caritas India and the Roop V K Jain Foundation has been instrumental in creating this shift. Through regular learning support, community engagement, and efforts to reduce stigma, the programme is redefining how children with disabilities are seen and supported in Nuh. The children’s day celebration stood as a visible outcome of this long-term work.

This is not just a celebration. It’s a sign that the community is beginning to believe that all children, regardless of ability, deserve equal space.

The day concluded with applause, shared laughter, and a renewed sense of community responsibility.
