Christmas express shares the warmth of solidarity

The staff and volunteers of Caritas India launched its “Christmas Campaign” on December 10, 2021. The goal was to manifest the true essence of solidarity and share the joy of baby Jesus by raising funds for the less privileged people during this winter.

Caritas India staff and volunteers called on people to donate to their organization to support three solidarity actions: distribution of blankets to the less privileged families (blanket drive); distribution of meals to the poor and needy on the streets (Anand Bhoj); distribution of sweaters to the children in the Northern tribal regions and urban slums (Sweater drive).

For most of us, Christmas means the exchange of gifts, presents, visiting near and dear ones sharing joy and happiness. But yes, the Christmas season is a season of goodwill and it can be very tough for many who are less privileged (homeless, recently bereaved families, lonely and struggling to make ends meet) especially with this biting winter cold. As an expression of our solidarity and sharing, Caritas India mobilized funds for Blanket, sweaters and food to express our joy with warmth.

Distributing blankets, sweaters and food to the needy is an expression of our love and compassion. Our focus communities for these blanket and sweater drives were particularly widows, widowers, children, people with disabilities, elderly people, families with sick people, single women etc. to help them survive the biting winters.

The staffs and volunteers with the support of more than 150 donors were able to reach 1000 people with blankets in different locations of Delhi Slums and resettlement colonies in collaboration with local partner Delhi Archdiocese (in and around Savda, Jahangirpri, Shastri Park and Mother Theresa’s shelter homes)

The pleasure in supporting the needy people with the basic requirement carries a different feeling that can’t be explained in words.  People who received them expressed happiness to all donors and Caritas India for this great sense of solidarity and sharing at the right time when Delhi is hit with cold waves.

Anand Bhoj- Meal of Joy served 150 needy Homeless, daily wage workers on the streets. Caritas Staff and Volunteers took the initiative to cook and distribute hot meals to the people in and around Gole Dak Khanna, Gole Market and Connaught Place areas in Delhi.  Meal of Joy was an opportunity for the staff to contribute voluntarily and to organize, manage and community Kitchen themselves to serve the needy people.
