How TSSS, Tellicherry transforming mendicants to skillful entrepreneurs

Due to ongoing COVID 19 lockdown, 57 mendicants from the town have been sheltered in the MES School located at Thalassery. These peoples are facing a shortage of food supplies to maintain their livelihood and as the direction from District administration, TSSS, Tellicherry provided them with sufficient food grains for their next 15 days of survival.

To tap the potential of these mendicants TSSS, Tellicherry has come forward with a suggestion to impart self-employment generation training programs to them. This idea had got wide acceptance from the viewpoints of the esteemed delegates and they have wholeheartedly encouraged to do so.

A team from the TSSS started imparting self-employment generation training program in “umbrella-making” with enough raw materials and resources. The Tellicherry Social Services Society known had successfully provided motivation-oriented self-employment training on umbrella-making to uplift the mendicants from the city of Thalassery, to empower them after this COVID 19 related lockdown period by transforming their lifestyles and by fostering entrepreneurship among them.

The TSSS Director Fr. Benny Nirappel has successfully imparted this training by maintaining the stipulated social distancing criteria. Fr. Benny Nirappel has shared his vision to transform them self-sufficient and provided enough raw materials and instruments required for the Umbrella making training at free of cost. The honorable Chairman of Thalassery Municipality,  Sri. Rameshan inaugurated this training by sharing his idea to empower self-sustainability among the mendicants. Thalassery Janmaitri Police, SI, Sri. Majeed along with the Director of Thalassery Evening Meals Association, Mr. Shamreez, and Thalassery Merchant Association President, Mr. Jafar have made their best possible encouragements to this program with their presence.

The trained mendicants have given their hand made the umbrella’s as a  memento to the Kannur Additional District Magistrate Mrs. Mercy EP and Thalassery Tehsildhar Mr. Rajashekhar. Both of them expressed their best wishes to this program. The mendicants expressed their gratitude and happiness to TSSS.

To motivate and encourage this initiative, esteemed entrepreneurs from the city have come forward to support this mission and promised that they can ensure steady business orders to these trained mendicants if it is possible for them to ensure supply on time. This was a great achievement of this training and the mendicants.

The Director of TSSS Fr. Benny Nirappel assured the skilled trainees that TSSS can pre-purchase the raw material from them under a book-debt scheme which they can repay after their market realization of manufactured umbrellas.

This promise from the part of TSSS has gained wide acceptance from the delegates and their wholehearted support for this new venture. The impact of this intervention helped poor people to be linked and well connected with the local administration authorities and the entrepreneurs. The entire team behind this filled with happiness to see these enlightened lifestyles.
