Orientation Programme on Anti Human Trafficking in Northeast India

Human Trafficking is considered as the biggest crime against humanity. Combating this crime becomes one of our prime duties. Caritas India takes a small step towards this critical mission.

Orientation Programme on Anti Human Trafficking in Assam & Arunachal Pradesh held at Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) Guwahati, for the directors, project coordinators, and animators of the organisation. Coming forth the anti-human trafficking program will be implemented in 75 villages of 15 Block in 7 districts of the state of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh by Seva Kendra, Silchar, Nedan Foundation, Centre for Development Institute (CDI), Seva Kendra Dibrugarh and Purvanchal Pragati Samaj.

The programme will focus on the understanding of human trafficking, especially in the North East. Digambar Narzary, Director, Nedan Foundation elaborated the impact of human trafficking in North East India. He emphasized the multifaceted factors, push and pull factors of human trafficking in the region. He insisted that enormous human resource of North East could be duly utilized in combatting trafficking.

Ms. M. Shimray, Operations Manager, Caritas India oriented the partners on the impact, outcomes of the programme. She further explained the role and timeframe of Partners and Caritas India.  She informed that it is a pilot project future support will depend on the results derived from the first phase. Commitment and hard work would be required from the partner organization and Caritas India

The second day started with recap sharing of the first day by Ms. Ruth. Mr. Jonas Lakhra, Zonal Manager, North East Zone helped the participants develop the Detail Implementation Plan (DIP) for the programme. Group works were conducted focusing on the documentation of Detailed Implementation Plan followed by Mr Albinus sharing critical points under financial and administrative norms.

The orientation programme concluded with the partner organisations sharing their action plan for the first quarter
