Gram Nirman, meaning “making of a village,” is a community-led development program supported by Caritas Australia and implemented by Caritas India.
Rooted in the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, it empowers communities to identify local resources and plan their own progress. The program focuses on improving family incomes through on- and off-farm livelihoods, strengthening access to government schemes, and promoting dignity, well-being, and collective action. Since July 2021, it has reached 165 villages across Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh and expanded to 18 urban slums in East Delhi, supporting migrant families affected by HIV/AIDS through a Community Based Rehabilitation model.
