Caritas India Ashakiranam ‘Cancer Care’ program Quilon Social Service Society (QSSS) and Indian Dental Association (IDA) – Quilon Branch in collaboration with Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), Trivandrum, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences and Travancore Medical College, Reliance foundation organized a Mega Medical Camp at the San Pio Retreat Centre, Kovilthottam, Chavara, Kollam, Kerala.
The medical team consisted of 37 doctors and 17 technicians and nurse from all these hospitals who screened around 583 for cancer detection.
According to WHO, 2.2 million cancer cases are prevalent in India at any given time and according to one study Kerala has roughly 35,000 new cancer cases every year.
Caritas through Ashakiranam is organizing such camps in different parts of kerala to identify Cancer patients.
Till Now 4600 patients have been identified through different surveys and camps.
The day also observed as “No Tobacco Day” by QSSS and IDA and the officials present stressed about the ill-effects of Tobacco on our health.
As a follow up measure, QSSS has requested for a report from RCC and Travancore Medical College to analyse the number of newly detected cancer patients and try to provide counseling help.
