Enabling Children’s Participation in their Development: “Nothing About Us Without Us”

Under the aegis of Nine is Mine Campaign for investment of 3% Gross Domestic Product for Children’s Health and 6% for Education,Caritas India and Partners have joined the mission of forming Inclusive National Children’s Parliament. Children from Caritas India programmes, and district /state Child Parliaments anchored by partner organisations from Jabalpur- Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Darjeeling-West Bengal, Telangana and Tamil Nadu etc, participated in the series of national level actions from 29th – 31st August 2018, held in New Delhi.

The objective is to “enable children’s participation in all matters affecting them”.This is also essential to their rights and development as enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child signed by India.

The initiative aims to formulate and express the aspirations of children into a national children’s manifesto, that will be advocated by children and adults together, at national and state levels with their elected representatives. This has provided a platform to children from marginalised and remote communities to participate in demanding and influencing policies for their holistic development. The initiative provided a platform for children from different geographies and backgrounds to work together and formulate a united voice and agenda for development.
