Special need students enhancing their abilities with STEM

Rolls Royce supported Muskan programme of Caritas India is extended for next two years for the slow and average learners and children with learning disabilities through STEM learning programme.

The programme has successfully completed its first phase with 255 students from 4 schools of Delhi and Mumbai. In the next phase, the programme will focus its intervention with the same students to increase interest and encourage diversity amongst those taking Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subject as well as to assist the slow learners to achieve higher academic performance through assistive learning and innovative technology.

In a day long inauguration of Muskaan programme all the stakeholders were present at Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan on December 19, 2017. The programme followed by two-days debriefing session and the video shoot to capture the achievements of the previous phase.

“By 2021, Rolls Royce would like to work with 1000 students in Government Schools under Muskan to promote STEM education”, shared Mr. Kishore Jayaraman, President, Rolls –Royce South Asia. He interacted with the children and appreciated their performance on use of STEM Kits. He also shared that they would like to replicate the model at the global level.

The programme focused on the students with special needs with the use of STEM kits. The students were quite delighted and it helped them to enhance their learning abilities in the difficult subjects like Science, Mathematics and Robotics.

In the long term, the programme objective is to build capacities of teachers and schools, and NGOs who are active in helping children with learning difficulties to help them adopt STEM in their daily life.

Eminent dignitaries present during the occasion were Mr. Kishore Jayaraman, President, Rolls –Royce South Asia, Mr. Sujit Sahu, Manager, CAF India, Mrs. Vinita Shanker, DDE, Director of Education and Mr. Ashok Pradhan, Director, Bhavan’s Delhi Kendra.
