Nutritional and Food Security
Under the Nutrition & Food Security intervention in Global Program India Caritas India envisage of strengthening the food security ecosystem leveraging Public Distribution system and POSHAN Abhiyan. The program aims at improving the participation of the community from different socio-economic background, with special emphasis on enhanced participation from marginalised section of the population.
Major efforts are focussed on the establishment of synergistic linkages between food security through strengthening PDS and its grievance redressal mechanism, Home-based agriculture practices, nutrition, and health knowledge and practices to overcome the food security barrier and to concretely establish nutritional diet intake at household level.
What we’re doing
Public Awareness
Monthly campaign for improving the information and education level awareness on ways to improve food safety and security at household level. Healthy eating practices of mother and child and hygiene practices is the focal theme of campaign.
Capacitating Household to Improve the Nutrition security
The most marginalised and deprived family is being supported through quality seed distribution along with tools and technique to prepare homestead farm in their backyard and bori-bagicha where land is not available.
Strengthening CBO for Ensuring Health & nutrition services
Regular and timely engagement with Village level committees for education, health and nutrition and sanitation to enhance the knowledge, information, and awareness to strengthen the service delivery of the various scheme.
Evidence based implementation
Fact finding on nutrition and social inclusion, Documentation of Indigenous traditional knowledge, homestead farming and climate resilient agriculture practices for ensuring the quality implementation and advancement in the program this is followed by Social audit process.
